PM wants mandatory sentences for 'serious' drug crimes

Allan in Kamloops hits the nail right on the head. This is no more than a pre-election rally for the Conservatives. It seemed to work pretty well in the U.S. with their "Get tough on drugs" campaign. Mini-Bush is trying to rake in a few more votes.

Hydrogen study fuels possibilities

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - As Jim Flanagan makes his rounds in a white Ford van, his electrician tools in the back, the vehicle seems no different from any other in the maintenance fleet at Pennsylvania State University.

That all changes when he stops for a fill-up.

Every day, at a service yard across the street from the football stadium, Flanagan pulls up to a slender white pillar and connects a sturdy metal nozzle to his gas pipe.

In this case, the word gas is literal. With a loud mechanical hum, the nozzle dispenses a blend of natural gas and the lightest element on earth: hydrogen.

Hydrogen has been spoken of for years as a key to cars of the future. Now, in a very limited way, it seems the future is already here.

Besides Penn State - home to more than 100 engineers, chemists, physicists, and others studying the gas as a transportation fuel - a handful of institutions are starting to use hydrogen in their vehicle fleets.

Pennsylvania state government Web site hacked

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Hackers from China infiltrated the Web site of the Pennsylvania state government, but officials said they found no evidence of damage.

Four state departments had security problems with their Web pages, leading to a decision to take down nearly all of the state's Internet site on Friday morning.

Office of Administration spokeswoman Mia DeVane said there was no reason to think anyone's personal data had been compromised or that any damage occurred when a hacker "got into what we would say is a back door."

Economic future will stay a theme in Sebelius speech

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius delivers a State of the State speech Monday night crafted to set the tone of debate in the 2008 session of the Legislature.

If history is any guide, there will be enthusiastic applause from Democrats and polite clapping by Republicans during the annual joint session of the House and Senate. The Democratic governor's televised speech will be laced with recommendations on education, health care, energy, the budget and a host of other issues.

Faith Under Fire In IA & NH

The Politico has broken a story on a phone calls to Iowa and New Hampshire voters masquerading as being pro-McCain while slamming ex-Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) for his Mormon faith -- equating his beliefs to a cult. According to news reports, the campaign of U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) vehemently denies involvement or sanction of such phone calls.Apparently the calls have been traced back to a Utah-based phone vendor called Western Watts. The calls asks a series of questions, asking if the respondent would be more or less likely to favor Romney if they knew XYZ about him. The litany included the topics of his faith, Mormonism and Vietnam-era military deferments due to his missionary service in France. The calls allegedly note the Mormon faith holds its text is superior to the Christian Bible and that Mormon bishops would not accept African-Americans into their church up to the 1970's.According to the Associated Press, one call recipient described their experience this way: ""It started out like all the other calls.
