The NFL regular season has come to a close and the Cleveland Browns just missed making the playoffs. A few weeks ago it sure looked like they were in good shape as far as the post season was concerned, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Still, the Browns did register a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in their final game and there will be high hopes for this team entering the 2008 season. The Brownies finished with a 10-6 record, far exceeding expectations for this team entering 2007. This is the first time this franchise has reached a double digit win total since they re-entered the league in 1999. They provided many thrills for their die hard fans this season and belive me it was long overdue. I grew up in Cleveland and have been a life long Browns fan, so the following opinion might be a bit bias.

Merkel's timing in sending a human rights message to Beijing was carefully chosen, coming just a few weeks after the chancellor's trip to China (which was overshadowed by reports of PLA cyber attacks against German government computers), and less than a year before the start of the 2008 Olympics. Despite the blustering, Beijing knows too well that it would be counterproductive to make too big of a deal of the Dalai Lama visit, especially since it does not herald any major shift in Germany's China policy. Just today, the ruling conservative CDU/CSU Bundestag group announced that Chancellor Merkel will give a major major foreign policy address on Asia at a conference in Berlin on October 26. She will leave for another Asia trip right after the speech, thus emphasizing the region's growing political and economic importance.
Dell cribs services playbook from larger rivals
Dell is beginning to sound a lot like IBM, HP, EDS or any other technology services provider. The big question is whether it'll succeed at running infrastructure for customers. One of the big takeaways from Dell's conference call Thursday evening–aside from the lack of guidance, slight hostility from analysts and shakiness of the presentation in some areas–is that the PC giant wants to go become more of a services provider. The message: We're Dell, we can simplify your architecture and run it for you. Consultants need not apply. The big picture: Dell wants to sell more software and services so it can offset its low-margin foray into the retail channel and improve the earnings outlook. For a while, Dell's Stephen Schuckenbrock, president of global services and chief information officer, sounded like he was back at EDS.

Whether its a kazoo or Stradivarius you have stashed away in your closet, if you've got the gumption to get up on stage and perform then opportunity knocks.For a nominal entry fee of $10, aspiring performers age 13 and older will be able to test their talent at the first-ever Taunton's Got Talent competition.The event is scheduled for March 7 in the Aurora room of the BandStandLive music complex on West Water Street in Weir Village.Performers that night will be eligible to win a $300 cash prize and an opportunity to take to the main stage of the 2008 Taunton River Festival in June.The purpose of the good-natured competition is to help raise money for the Weir Corp. Scholarship Fund, which each year awards four $250 scholarships to a graduating student from Taunton High School, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Coyle and Cassidy High School and Bristol County Agricultural High School.This year marks a return to the tradition of giving a hand to local college-bound grads, Weir Corp.
